I started tinkering about with tape recorders back in the distant days of mono reel to reel with the famous magic eye. When the beat boom struck in the early 60's I learned to play bass thinking that four stings would be easier to learn than six.

By the seventies I had out grown my home town, and the local music scene and needed new challenges and adventures.
Pro gigs in London bands took me to Beirut, and gigs in Germany.
I'd been writing songs for a few years and got my big break when the band I was in was offered a one off record deal for my undiscovered classic song Baby your my doughnut. The record company was called Jam records and was owned by Dick James who published the early Beatles songs so I was in hallowed company, but"Bill Easher and the Beacons" 45 came to a sticky end.
The next band called "Gnasher" tried to be a bit more serious and ended up signed to "Deep Purples' record company with Roger Glover producing. After this brush with near stardom my next step was into bands playing in fringe theatres and picking up gigs on the London  circuit.

The big city had lost it's appeal by 1987 and I headed north for a week in the Lakes but never managed to get back to London.
I had always thought that there should be a studio in this isolated peninsula so I opened Southlake studio which is the only pro studio within 50 miles.

Most of the original bands in the area use the studio which has given a focus to the local scene and the studio has been instrumental in securing grants to help bands gain access to the studio.
Southlake studio also hosts an awards night each year to acknowledge the talent in this area.

Besides running the studio I still play bass and this year will see "The Lakes Blues Band" celebrating ten years together. The next adventure is to develop this web site to bring together all aspects of music in this peninsula and in the near future to begin webcasting from the studio and selling music online.

Pure and simple love Colin Williams  1978                                      Menu Astral Flights Colin Williams

There's a place deep inside, calm as a hurricanes eye
Where nothing moves and it's oh so smooth
That's where my love for you lies.
In the night, it's the light of love that shines in your eyes.

It's pure and simple love for you have I, no lies
The kind of love that lives, and never dies, no lies.

There's no time just endless space,
Where worries are gone with the wind
And all is calm, In her arms,
That's where my love for you lies.
And way down deep, I can feel,
something really warm is touching my soul, so old.

It's pure and simple love for you have I no lies,
The kind of love that lives and never dies, no lies

In a land called half asleep,
where more than sheep go passing by
Before your half closed open eyes can comprehend,
There are spirits in the dark that drift so cold across the park,
And they just long to possess you like a friend,

And when your floating in the air you are aware of it,
You can leave your body there she'll take good care of it.
But you better beware of those astral fights,
Gotta be back by first light.

In a land called half asleep between the sheets you lie alone
And as the alpha starts to flow the show begins,
She sends shivers down your spine,
Your sense of time just disappears,
And all those seconds turn to years inside your mind.

And when your floating in the air etc.

This is no time               C Williams    1982                            Menu Go with the flow           C Williams     1985                        Menu
Don't let the tide go out, don' let it slip away,
Don't let a burning light flicker and fade,
It's a shame that we stumble
just when everything was going right,
It's just a little bit rough out there tonight, tonight.

This is no time to be leaving,
This is the time you've got to start believing,
This is the time when love comes out to fight.
This no time to be leaving
This is the time you've gotta start believing,
This no time to go, stay tonight.

I don't understand myself,
Don't know which way to turn,
Don't want to see you leave and never return,
And if I hurt you, it's only me out of my mind,
All I ever wanted was to love you,
For all time.

Back to menu

Well you hurt me so bad,
That it almost felt good,
There's something in sadness that helps you believe
When your all out of love,
There's an ache in your heart now,
Reaching down to your soul
Here come the tears babe, just let them roll.

And rock me tonight babe,
And let the tears roll,
Just for tonight babe,
Lets go with the flow.

Now there aint no pretending
When I send you my love
In a world without ending
whatever your sending,
It's never enough
There's an ache in your heart now
Reaching down to your soul
Here come the tears babe, just let them roll.

Belsize and the Boundary Line  C. Williams/ Doug Ford                     Menu Without sharing Colin Williams/Miki England             Menu
Once it was a thing to be born by the railroad track,
Where the locos  roll, and they go choo choo and clickety clack,
But it ain't no place to be in the eighties
Right along the main main line,
Living' in a concrete canyon,
Between the Belsize and the boundary line.

Johnny B goode aint got nothing on this poor boy,
 Sure is an actual fact,
This ain't no one horse town and this aint no broken down shack,
It's got cascading concrete and double glazed views,
and rooms where the sun never shines,
Kids all call it Lego land
Between the Belsize and the Boundary line.

All night, all day, oh lord we got to get away,
Oh lord can't you hear my prayer,
I want a one way ticket for two'
Gotta get out of here.

Winters over, the dark lonely nights they slip away
Nearly spring-time saw the snowdrop         today
Living on air and the waters from the ground
Why do I need so much.
Why do I need so, why do I need so much.

Without sharing how can there be justice in the world,
Without justice how can there be freedom,
without freedom how can there be peace in this world,
Without peace how can there be a future
Why do I need so much

War going on  Colin Williams Menu Lorraine               C. Williams Menu
There's a war going out there,
Black cats are cruising the lanes on the east side,
And the Governments talking about caring
And I couldn't care less  cause there's no time.

You know what it is, it's the waiting some times
Gets you every time for sure,
And the torment hurts like tenderness,
You get to thinking that time won't cure.

It's to late to try to analyse,
Tell me tell me who's taking all the blame,
Just told you I love you so,
But who's taking you home again.

I'm taking off I'm taking out of here,
Taking nothing but my weekly pay.
One long road like the cowboys sail
And, cowboys don't fail, but it's such a lonely trail.

There's a war etc.

Here come those winter nights and the cold cold days,
Summertime you were doing alright, or so you would say,
But when the mists of the twighlight come,
This lonely life has got you on the run,
And all the walls are closing in again,
It's time to change your life,
Lorraine.

Sometimes you've got to stand don't you know,
Sometimes your gonna fall,
Sometimes you get just what you wanted
Sometimes you lose it all,
Sometimes you'll get heartache and pain,
Tears are falling and it feels like rain,
You want to give it up and get out of this game, again,
It's just called growing up.

So sad to see you go down see you
Hit the bottom then you turn round,
Then you find time, and its time to leave,
Your free as a bird, to fly.

Little Grey Cross C. Williams 1997
Menu
  Nappin Tree C.Willams         1996
Menu
She put a little grey cross, on a little white sheet of paper,
As the town clock struck 7. am. on the 1st day of May,
And she folded the paper and posted it into the black box,
Eighteen years waiting for this very day.

It was only a little grey cross on a white sheet of paper,
And it might not appear to be too much important at all,
She walked out in the street,
Felt the sun beating down on her home town,
And she remembered Mandela,
And the day they tore down the wall.

Fell out of the blue skies,
Caught on the Spring tide,
Buried in a landslide,
Swept clean away.

She put a little grey cross on a little white piece of paper,
And watched empires crumble,
As ragged blue dragons were slain,
Twenty four hours that she could hardly imagine,
As democracy roared and the world stared turning again.

If I could be anywhere, I know where I'd be,
Here by the fireside, at old Napping tree,
  Where the kettle gets fettled,
  Constant coffee or tea,
  And the music is endless,
  And the joy comes free,

If I could be anywhere, I know where I'd be,
Watching the dawn break, at old napping tree,
Where the rain falls so gently, come to polish the trees,
And the music is endless, and the joy comes free.

And this could be anytime you want it to be,
  We've been  10,000 years, here,
  At old Napping tree,

And if I could be anyone, I'd want to be me,
Under beautiful skies, lord, at old Napping
  tree,
Where the man in the moon,
  Is laughing with me,
And everything's endless. and the joy comes free.

Sweet September            C. Williams      1988         Menu Put out the cat Colin Williams       1976        Menu
Sweet September, summers over, nights are fast drawing in,
Winter whispers its words like an old Friend,
Light the home fires again.
All the leaves on the trees are turning,
Bringing Autumns surprise,
Oak and beech woods in the setting sun,
Won't you look out the mountains on fire.

But now my heart wants to, run like the rivers,
And fly like the birds in the sky,
There's a mist on our mountain tonight,
And a tear of farewell in your eye.

Do you remember we climbed a mountain,
Just to look at the view.
Was one of those beautiful summer days and,
You were beautiful too.

The English lakeland, in all her glory,
Is decked in a mantle of golden glow,
And I really love you, but I've got to leave you,
Guess it's time for me to go.

I could do with some of your love but all that I get,
Is a little bit of dope in a note from you,
I could do with bumming a ride to Peru or Tibet,
And I would if I could but I can't get through.

Morning breaks and, snaps in two,
Sun was shining and the sky was blue, and
In the silence of the morning dew,
Heard a curious sound.

Castanets in the naked dawn,
Cheshire cats lying on the lawn, whilst,
You and me keeping each other warm,
Underneath the eiderdown.

I could do with some of your love etc.

Meanwhile back in the land of nod,
Many people making out they're God, while,
Seven Spanish maidens making love
To another mans dream.

Money Talks and I'm so dumb,
Must be a million ways of making some,
Instead of lying in this summer sun,
Getting burned and brown.

I could do with some of your love and tender romancing,
Like they did in the days gone by,
If I could then heavens above there'd be no more dancing,
Just to put out the cat and turn out the light.

Portinax bay                         C.Williams       Menu This Town  C. Williams           1994
Menu
Woke up this morning, with you on my mind,
Rain it was pouring down, was no sunshine,
Me I was thinking of slipping away
And one more dappled blue Portinax day
Down in dapple blue Portinax Bay.

And all this confusion, that I read about every day,
The world has gone crazy, me I'm slipping away,
To a place with no future, only live for today,
Down in dappled blue, Portinax bay
One more dappled blue Portinax day

It's late in the evening, got a bottle of wine,
Out by the ocean, your looking so fine.
And we don't do no talking as the sun slips away,
On one more dappled blue Portinax day,
Down in dappled blue Portinax Bay.

There's a cold wind blowing down Dalton road,
And the tide is rising high,
There's a full moon glowing up overhead in a pitch black sky.
And it feels like winter in the middle of spring,
God knows what tomorrow will bring,
Because,

This Town,
Is closing down,
This town,
Is up for sale.

There's ten thousand two bed roomed terraced houses,
Every night in the Evening Mail.
They're paying the peace reward,
It's the price the town must pay.
And the distant thunder of the works machine
Is just some old shipwrights dream, because,

This town etc.

See the last man crossing over Jubilee bridge,
And the gate closes one last time.
And the ghosts from Dreadnought, down to trident,
Will haunt us one last time.
It's instant karma in Trident town,
And like submarines we're going down, and,

This town, is closing down,
This town, is up for sale.

Spoken;
See the dunes rolling in from Walney beach, covering over every thing, taking it back to how it used to be, taking us back to mother nature, wilderness, hear the lonely seagulls cry and the  sailor shipwrecked, listen, to silence, this town is closing down

Big Sun         C. Williams/ M. England
Menu
Dine with the crew           C. Williams      1989  Menu
Big sun burning down that open road
You've got your ticket to ride and that's some where to go
And that's all right.
Got the sound of music coming at you like a big bang,
And your dealing with the jokers up ahead
And listening to an ace track on the stereo,
And your rock n rollin home.

There's nothing wrong with you that drowning wouldn't cure,
You'd be dead for certain now if you could say for sure.
But your still not sure.

You can take a tumble you can take a fall
You can take all kinds of hurting but,
If you should fall in love.
The world comes crashing in yes the world will explode,
And the world forever changes to the one you used to know ,
When you fall in love, don't fall in love.

There's nothing wrong with you that drowning wouldn't cure
You'd be dead for certain now if you could say for sure,
But your still not sure.

'I've Got a micro light, she likes to go by plane,
I'm down to earth she wants those castles in Spain.
I'm in to windsurfing but she prefers sailing,
And she dines with the captain,
And I dine with the crew.

I'm rough and ready but she like s a man with style,
I like to Rock she wants to roll all the while,
I want to act she says directing is fine,
And she dines with the producer,
And I dine with the crew.

I ride a motor bike, she drives a car,
I reach for the moon, she says, I want the stars,
I've got a caravan in the hills, she prefers a country estate,
And she dines with the Gentry,
And I dine with the crew.

But Ooo when were making love,
Ooo making sweet sweet love,
Ooo Lovers without shame,
Each one attracted to this parlour game.

I like my freedom but she wants to settle down,
I love the city, she can't even stand the town,
I'm into software but she's got the hardware too,
And she dines with the captains of industry,
And I dine with the crew.

Woke up                  C. Williams 1985 Menu See If I Care  C.Willams   1993
Menu
Woke up I'd been sleeping,
When I should have been midnight creeping,
Making sweet love in the back seat of my car,
On a Saturday, or any other day,

Woke up I was half dead,
Maybe something that she said,
Cut the night like a lightning flash in a big blue sky.

Look out I'm wide awake and I'm coming after you,
Aint nothing about it that you can do.

You can leave like a train, rolling on down the tracks,
You can make a lot of noise, like the jets up at Jacks,
I could say it doesn't hurt me,
Been comin' on strong,
Getting ready for the Goodbye
Getting ready for gone.

See If I Care, go ahead

You can go with the flow,
You can dance around the moon,
You could slip out of the side door,
I could advertise your room,
I could say it doesn't hurt babe,
Got a feeling I'd be wrong,
Getting ready for the goodbyes
Getting ready for gone.

See If I Care, go ahead.

And if I see you sometimes,
Well I'm sure won't bleed,
I  won't be your make believe,
I don't know what you need,
I'll be there to help you but you need to understand,
Disappointment I can take,
It's the hope that I can't stand.

See If I Care, go ahead.

Communication breakdown  C.Williams 2001 Menu
The tide was high and the sky was blue,
It's just like paradise out here at the Ocean view,... hotel
And the beach boys are waving,
They flash you that, "come buy" smile,
Its so hard to say no, when they're selling it with so much style,

Well I ask ya,
Don't you love Africa,
Out on Mombassa beach
Where the world can't reach you at all,
Don't try to call, you can't reach me at all.

Ali's got a cat that he said he sailed from old Zanzibar,
And he'd sail us there tomorrow,
But we just can't afford to go that far,
And the sun is beating down on the beach
Where there's no shade at all.
And the hardest thing I do all day,
Is watch out if a coconut falls,

Well I ask ya, etc.

Nothing much is moving here in the midday sun,
Except for the breeze and the Hotel security man,
And the Indian Ocean roars just a half a mile away,
But it's having you so close that made this a perfect holiday

Well I ask ya.

Is she sweet sixteen going on two,
Got the temper tantrums and the hormone blues,
And four letter words like they're going on out of style,
Does she talk in text on her mobile phone,
On the Internet the moment she gets home,

You've got communication breakdown
In the information age.

Has she got Eminem on her bedroom wall,
Limp bizkit blaring down the hall,
From a big black hole where her bedroom used to be.
And I swear this house will surely disappear,
Through that bedroom door that we daren't go near,

We got communication breakdown,
In the Information age.

They used to sing that she was sweet sixteen,
All ribbons and curls and peaches and cream,
But it was only a dream it was just some popular song
Now it's a nightmare in Gothic and black,
Shocking the parents who rudely just laugh,
Till the cracks in her make up
Turn out to be cracks in their lives.

She's got parents brought up on peace and love,
Into a perfect world they'd been dreaming of,
When it was pre. PC and IT was some magazine,
Now she's sweet sixteen, going on two
We got the teenage tantrums and the high heeled shoes,
And communication breakdown
In the Information age

Stay happy, be cool C.Williams     1999   Menu Let it rise  Colin Williams           1976
Menu
Stay happy be cool
Live your life by your own rules,
Don't you be nobodies fool,  just,
Stay happy, be cool.

I suggest you listen, now relax,
Just take some time out to relax,
Just leave your worries at the back of your mind,
Take time time to find out, what life is all about.

Stay happy, be cool, etc.

Slave to the rhythm, now relax,
Turn off, tune in, drop out, relax
Let me show you this beautiful world,
And take time to find out,
No need to scream and shout.

Stay happy etc.

On Parliament hill on a morning like this,
It's as clear as a bell and there's no, overnight mist,
Just before the dawn as the last star disappears,
You can hear the hum of the city,
Getting into first gear.

And it's midsummer madness, Let it rise,
Look out St Joseph, Let it rise
Switch on the day and Let it rise.

Panda one five is out cruising the hill,
He's disturbing the peace of the night and upsetting the still,
Goose pimples rise sticking right up out of my skin,
But it's only the sunrise, that the old bill has come to take in.

And it's midsummer madness etc.

Take extra care when you look at the sun,
Just remember it's ultra violet, that is turning you on.
Bask in the sunbeams that are, burning your bum,
Cause you could go blind boy,
Looking down the barrel of a cosmic gun.

And it's midsummer madness Let it rise. etc.

Sometimes you jump C.Williams 1983
Menu
Just you, me, let it be C Williams 1980                  Menu
How could anybody want to break your heart
How could anybody be so cruel,
How could anybody want to make you cry
Anyone like that must be a fool,
And anyone with half a heart would care,
Sometimes you jump and no-ones there.

This could be the love that you say you lost
This could be the answer to my prayer,
This could be the long way home tonight,
This could be the last lonely days,
You come in on the rebound
so you better take care,
Sometimes you jump and no-ones there.

Oh this world is full of foolish pride,
Oh this world is full of pain,
It's only life and love is all around
To make your spirit whole again,
And you canget a broken heart repaired,
Sometimes you jump and no-ones there.

So you say you've got the weight of the world on your shoulders,
You say your looking for sanctury some where to hide,
It's only the ways of the world,
It's got nothing to do with tonight,
It's just you me let it be.

Yesterday is over it's all in the past babe,
Youve got to learn to live one day at a time,
I know you've been hurt so bad and it's hard to believe anymore,
If you can't see let it be.

Yes I know what you mean the crazies will tear out your soul,
So that the whole of your life seems a waste of time,
Don't you worry about the lines on your face,
Now aint the time or the place for your tears.

Don't you know there's stars and they shine in your eyes babe.
Sometimes I see the whole Universe
And the tears taht you cry like diamonds
will wash away all of the pain,
In tme you'll see let it be.
